The Ghana Police Service has revealed disturbing forensic findings from its investigation into the murder of Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was discovered on July 9, 2025, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Accra.
Mr. Amoah, stationed at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) headquarters, was reported missing since July 4, prompting an intensive search.
At a press briefing in Accra today, August 4, Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, provided a comprehensive update, confirming that the suspect—initially charged with kidnapping—has now been formally charged with murder.
She recounted grim details uncovered across multiple crime scenes by forensic teams.
“A forensic inspection of the suspect’s residence revealed bloodstains in the living room and evidence of attempted cleanup, including freshly sprayed walls and an empty spray-paint can,” she stated.
Additional evidence was found at a secondary scene near the GBC Satellite area, including a burnt wooden carpet stained with blood and partially charred camouflage fabric.
These items were photographed, retrieved, and processed for forensic analysis, she added.
The investigation intensified on July 24, 2025, after police secured a court warrant to conduct a targeted search of a specific room in the suspect’s home. This search uncovered more bloodstains, which were again documented and sampled.
A significant breakthrough came with the discovery of a “fufu pestle with bloodstains, wrapped in polythene,” found in the bushes about 100 metres from the suspect’s house.
Police further impounded the suspect’s vehicle, where additional bloodstains were observed and sampled. Initial tests confirmed the presence of human blood.
To conclusively link the evidence to the victim, DNA samples were provided by Amoah’s mother and son.
In light of the mounting forensic evidence, the suspect, Bright Aweh, was re-arrested and formally charged with murder. He was originally charged with kidnapping when Amoah’s disappearance was first reported.
He is currently on remand following an appearance before the Adabraka District Court and is expected to reappear on August 8.
COP Donkor concluded by announcing that a special operation is underway to identify and apprehend accomplices and assured the public that investigators are pursuing vital leads to strengthen the case against all involved persons.
