Management of Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (OMESS) in Koforidua is counting its losses after a fire broke out at the school on Monday, August 4, 2025, destroying the housemaster’s bungalow.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze, which started in the evening, affected only the housemaster’s residence.
The GNFS disclosed that the inferno completely damaged “the roof, ceiling, furniture, home appliances, and other personal belongings.”
Although the adjoining boys’ dormitory was spared, thanks to the swift response of GNFS firefighters, who acted quickly to contain the situation and prevent the fire from spreading further.
The GNFS said it received the emergency call at 6:24 p.m., dispatched two fire engines to the school, and managed to bring the fire under control before fully extinguishing it by 8:29 p.m.
The GNFS, in a statement, confirmed that, fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
However, investigations have been launched into the incident, although preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault in the ceiling of the housemaster’s residence.
“An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, although preliminary findings point to an electrical fault within the ceiling of the housemaster’s residence,” parts of the statement noted.
