The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on media practitioners across the country to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and empathy in their coverage of the tragic helicopter crash.
GJA acknowledged their service in the midst of the development, underscored the need of the media to be ethical and sensitive reporting under emotionally challenging circumstances.
A statement signed by GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour further urged its members to refrain from circulating graphic images of the accident.
“In this period of grief, the GJA urges all journalists and media houses to exercise the highest level of professionalism and empathy in their reportage. We must honour the memory of the departed by treating this incident with the dignity and respect the deceased deserve.
“In that regard, we specifically call on all journalists and media houses, as well as the general public, to cease the circulation of gory images of the accident since they are highly insensitive and direct violation of our code of ethics,” the statement emphasisied.
The GJA, as a mark of respect, announced the suspension all planned activities of the association until further notice.
Part of the statement issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025, expressed profound grief over the loss of the five senior government officials and three Ghana Airforce crew members, who perished in the crash on Wednesday, August 6.
