Ghanaian actress and socialite, Afia Schwarzenegger, has stirred controversy online after alleging that gospel musician Empress Gifty purchased her Artiste of the Year award at the recently held USA Music Awards.
The event, which took place on August 16, 2025, saw Empress Gifty emerge victorious in the highly competitive category, beating the likes of Fameye, King Paluta, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, King Promise, and KiDi to win the top prize.
However, in a viral live video, Afia Schwarzenegger cast doubt on the credibility of the awards scheme,and accusing Empress Gifty of securing the award through questionable means.
“What is there to talk about on UTV? Is it the award that they bought or what?” she questioned
Afia went on to mock the scheme, suggesting that she too could establish an award system in the United States and handle the artists of the year award to Patapa.
“I am also in America. Just give me six months and I will organize a music award and I will give the Artiste of the Year to Patapaa,” she stated.
