The Ministry of Health has announced the postponement of the Centralised Licensing Examinations for nursing and midwifery candidates, originally scheduled for August.
According to the ministry, the examinations will now take place on September 4, 2025,
In a statement, the sector said the decision was reached following a consultative meeting involving the Minister for Health, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI).
It noted that the parties involved agreed to revert to the previous format, where examinations are conducted within individual training institutions rather than at centralised locations.
“This measure is necessary to safeguard the safety and well-being of candidates, while ensuring fairness and proper monitoring of the examinations,” the statement dated Friday, August 22, 2025, said.
The Ministry cited concerns over the risks associated with extensive travel by students to designated centres.
“It is not proper for students to travel from one region to another to sit for examinations,” part of the Minister added.
To support the transition, the Ministry has pledged to provide the necessary logistics to ensure smooth implementation coupled with a revised timetable and detailed guidelines which will be issued by the NMC in due course.
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of candidates, training institutions, and stakeholders.
