A tragic accident has claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl at Assin Fosu after she was ran over by a speeding DAF truck with registration number AS-5090-14.

The horrific incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, near the Ghana Commercial Bank area in Assin Fosu.

Eyewitnesses told Angel News that the young girl, accompanied by three other friends, was crossing the road at a marked pedestrian crossing when the wood-laden truck, allegedly speeding, failed to stop and hit her.

The vehicle reportedly dragged her body for nearly 100 meters, after strucking her.

Graphic scenes from the accident saw the girl’s body was severely mutilated, with her intestines exposed where she died instantly.

Her remains have been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue in Assin Fosu.

Meanwhile, the personnel from the MTTD visited the scene shortly after the incident and have since launched investigations.

Speaking to the media, Central North Regional MTTD Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, confirmed that preliminary investigations point to excessive speeding as the main cause.

He described the incident as both “tragic and entirely avoidable.”

“How can a professional driver knock down a child at a clearly marked pedestrian crossing?” he lamented.

ASP Lumor stated that the driver has been arrested and will be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.
