Tema West Constituency Chairman, Kwasi Opoku, has blamed the tragic incident at the El-Wak Stadium, which claimed the lives of six female applicants during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise, on unemployment.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), he stated that unemployment remains a major challenge in Ghana and situations like these shows how desperate people are for job opportunities.
“If there were enough job opportunities, 61,000 people would not go and choke to join the military,” he emphasized.
According to Mr. Opoku, currently, the security services have become one of the few reliable avenues for employment in the country.
“Now police and other security services are the only available and easier ways to get a job, he added on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
He further alleged that, 70% of the recruitment process is influenced by protocol, assuming that many of the applicants at El-Wak Stadium might not make it into the military service.
“People who will be employed know themselves, there are people in the house who might not even go for the body selection,” Mr. Opoku claimed.
