Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is to rollout ambitious plans to deepen gender equality and protection in Ghana, as presented by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson in the 2026 budget presentation.
He explained that as part of “the efforts to deepen gender equality and protection, the Legislative Instrument for the Affirmative Action Act will be submitted to Parliament in 2026.”
This move is expected to strengthen inclusion and women’s empowerment in the country.
The Ministry has also made significant strides in addressing social issues, with 5,297 people sensitised on teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence.
“We provided care to 237 children in correctional centres and offered welfare services to 45 elderly persons and over 3,000 vulnerable citizens,” Ato Forson reported on Thursday, November 13, 2025 in Parliament.
In a bid to address inequality, the Social Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1148), was passed, with the accompanying Legislative Instrument being finalised.
“To address inequality, this landmark Act was passed, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to protect the vulnerable,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the Ministry has intensified efforts to combat human trafficking, with 135 victims receiving trauma-informed care.
Mr. Forson added that the wareness campaigns have also reached 770 stakeholders nationwide.
“We approved the revised Domestic Violence Policy to strengthen survivor protection and access to justice,” the Minister noted.
He also mentioned that Cabinet has also approved the revised National Gender Policy to strengthen inclusion and women’s empowerment.
