Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has reached out to Francis Abu, wishing him a speedy recovery after the midfielder suffered a serious injury.
The midfielder sustained the injury during Ghana’s defeat to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup on Friday morning, November 14, 2025.

Ayew, who missed the game due to a knee issue, expressed his support for Abu in a heartfelt phone call on Friday, November 14.
“On behalf of all the players, we wish you a speedy recovery and pray that God will heal you to return to the field to do what you love to do most,” he expressed in a statement quoted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Black Stars community is rallying around Abu, with Ayew’s message reflecting the team’s support for their injured teammate.
The GFA confirmed after the match that Abu is currently in a stable condition and responding to treatment.
Abu, who plays for Toulouse FC, was taken to the Toyota Memorial Hospital in Aichi after being fouled by Japan’s Tanaka Ao in the early stages of the second half.
The medical teams of the Black Stars, Toulouse FC, and the Toyota Memorial Hospital are working together to develop a treatment plan for Abu’s injury.
