Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye-Ackah, has attributed the El-Wak tragedy to the Ghana Armed Forces, arguing that responsibility lies with the military and not with politicians.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, November 17, 2025, Mr. Kwakye-Ackah criticised the military for failing to put adequate measures in place, insisting that the blame for the incident should not be shifted onto politicians.
“President and Minister have already played their part, so it’s the military who are to perform their role, so we shouldn’t blame politicians.
“We have to put the blame the military for this tragedy,” he pointed out.
Mr. Ackah further stressed that there is a need for the Ghana Armed Forces to implement proper measures to prevent any future tragedies, adding that those responsible must be held accountable.
“An effective maintenance plan would have helped to prevent the tragedy,” he suggested.
He questioned the rationale behind admitting large numbers of applicants for the screening process when only a few will eventually be selected.
“So what is the need for allowing 60,000 applicants for interviews where the total admissions is 4,000, explaining that there is something missing,” he described.
