The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the initial abduction of the Queenmother of the Kwahu Traditional Council in the Eastern Region.
Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, the Queenmother, was reportedly picked up by unknown gunmen dressed in police uniforms and claimed to be officials of the national security. This follows an attack on the Council’s palace at about 4:00 AM on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Her whereabouts were unknown; however, by the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, she was later released.
In a statement, the police administration confirmed her release and stated that the IGP had ordered the PPSB to immediately launch investigations into the operation, urging that anyone found guilty should be dealt with accordingly.
“The IGP has further directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau to investigate the circumstances surrounding the operation and any officers found culpable sanctioned,” the statement reads.
To maintain law and order in the Kwahu enclave, the IGP indicated that there has been intensified security in and around Kwahu to ensure the security and safety of all persons.
