Ghana’s senior national men’s team, the Black Stars, rounded off their participation in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup in Asia with a defeat to the Republic of Korea.
The team suffered a 1-0 loss to their Asian counterparts at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Coach Otto Addo made six changes to his starting line-up, which played against Japan with the hopes of salvaging their troubled Asian tour, but their efforts proved futile.
In a very intense and competitive first half, both sides pressed hard to break the deadlock, but it ended goalless.
Nine minutes into the second half, Ghana thought they had taken the lead in the 54th minute through Viktoria Plzeň attacker Prince Adu, only for VAR to adjudge it offside.
The Koreans responded quickly in the 63rd minute with Lee Tae-Seok’s strike, assisted by Lee Kang-In. They had the opportunity to extend their lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute.
England-based Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hwang Hee-Chan stepped forward confidently but failed to convert, as goalkeeper Benjamin Asare pulls off a composed save from 12-yards.
The remaining minutes of the game produced no further goals as the scoreline remained 1-0 in Korea Republic’s favor. In the other fixture of the day, Japan handed Bolivia a reality check with an emphatic 3-0 win.
The result handed Ghana another disappointing outcome, having lost 2-0 to Japan in their opener.
