Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that the government has completed the recruitment of 13,500 nurses and midwives.
Speaking at 19th Biennial Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Conference held in Tamale, he explained that the move is aimed to strengthen Ghana’s health sector.

According to Mr. Akandoh, the newly recruited personnel, will help stabilize the healthcare workforce, particularly in primary healthcare delivery under initiatives like Free Primary Healthcare and Mahama Cares.
He aded that those who experienced salary delays will receive payments by month-end.

Mr. Akandoh also highlighted plans to include negotiated Conditions of Service in the 2026 Budget, aiming to improve health worker welfare.
He further revelaed that promotions for nurses and midwives have been regularized, eliminating previous delays.

The Minister stressed the importance of collaboration between the Ministry, labour institutions, and GRNMA to address deployment, training, and workforce stability, emphasizing partnerships for quality healthcare nationwide.
