The Kumasi High Court has dismissed Akosua Serwaa’s claim of having a legally valid marriage with the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, ruling that the marriage she said was contracted in Germany is not recognized under Ghanaian law.
The court delivered its decision on Thursday, November 28, 2025, stating that the German marriage document submitted by Serwaa does not satisfy Ghana’s legal requirements for recognition. As a result, it cannot be used to claim that she is Daddy Lumba’s lawful wife.
In addition, the High Court rejected her request for exclusive widow status and denied her bid to gain full control over the musician’s funeral and burial arrangements. The ruling makes it clear that she does not have the legal standing to demand sole authority over the burial processes.
Lawyer Kusi, the attorney representing Akosua Serwaa, responds after the verdict;
Just hours after the judgement, Lawyer William Kusi, counsel for Akosua Serwaa, addressed journalists outside the Kumasi High Court.
He stated that although his legal team disagrees with the ruling, he is obliged as an attorney to respect the court’s final decision.
He explained that the judge concluded that the German marriage document “was not recognised,” leaving no further legal grounds to advance the case.
“We will need time to counsel our client on the options moving forward,” he added, noting that decisions regarding their next steps would be made after careful consideration.
Lawyer Kusi also expressed sincere appreciation to everyone who supported him throughout the case. He offered special gratitude to his wife, Akosua Pinamang, for her unwavering support during the entire legal journey.
