President John Dramani Mahama has marked the one-year anniversary of the December 7, 2024 election victory with a renewed pledge to Ghanaians and gratitude for their support that returned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power.
Mr. Mahama led the NDC to a landslide victory, securing 56.42% of the valid votes cast. His closest competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 41.75%.
Reflecting on the day he described as “historic,” Mr. Mahama recalled the anxiety, hope, and determination of millions of citizens who queued to vote, insisting their collective voice reclaimed Ghana’s future.
“A year ago today, on 7 December, Ghana spoke with one powerful voice. Thank you, Ghanaians. You believed in the promise of a #ResettingGhana agenda. You trusted in our collective vision to ‘Build the Ghana We Want’.”
The President paid tribute to the rank and file of the NDC, describing them as the “heartbeat of the victory,” and commended polling agents for their vigilance at voting centers.
He reiterated that his call for “our own referees” was a deliberate strategy to counter attempts by the Electoral Commission and the then-ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to subvert the will of the people.
Mr. Mahama also lauded the party’s executives, campaign strategists, and communications team for laying the groundwork that ensured the NDC’s triumph.
“You anticipated every move, countered every scheme, and ensured that the voice of the people could not be silenced,” he noted in a post on his socials.
Looking ahead, the President renewed his pledge to build “a Ghana for all,” stressing that the #ResettingGhana agenda remains on course.
He assured citizens that his government, alongside Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is committed to creating opportunities, restoring hope, and rebuilding trust in national institutions.
Mr. Mahama urged NDC supporters to remain steadfast, emphasizing that their reward lies not only in political appointments but in the collective progress of a nation where justice prevails and hard work is rewarded.
“The Ghana We Want is not a dream deferred but a promise in progress. The journey continues. The work goes on,” he reaffirmed.
