The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects and recovered service weapons following an attack on police officers by some youth in the Saawie community within the Jirapa Municipality.
On Friday, December 5, 2025, a mob of about thirty attacked officers who were conducting enquiries at Saawie near Jirapa, seized four service weapons, and inflicted injuries on the officers.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, immediately led a reinforcement team to the community and successfully rescued and evacuated the injured officers for medical attention.
“The team successfully retrieved all weapons and efforts are ongoing to retrieve two magazines,” said the police in a statement issued on Sunday, December 7.
The statement noted that the suspects arrested in connection with the attack have been put before the court.
Two officers who sustained varying degrees of injury have been treated and discharged, while one officer with a fractured arm has been referred to the Wa Regional Hospital for further medical care.
The statement strongly condemned the attack and assured the public that decisive measures are being taken to safeguard officers and law-abiding residents.
It urged residents of Saawie and neighbouring communities to cooperate with investigators and provide information that may assist in arresting the remaining suspects and recovering outstanding items.
