The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned what it describes as baseless and offensive attacks on its leadership by Kwasi Ringold, the destooled Amankrado of Akim-Asuom and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Commodity Exchange.
In a viral video interview, Mr. Ringold reportedly made derogatory remarks targeting the party’s leadership, particularly the five presidential aspirants vying for the NPP’s 2026 flagbearer slot.
In a statement, signed by Kofi Abrefa Busia, Constituency Secretary of the NPP, described his comments as “reckless, unwarranted,” and “misguided,” asserting that Mr. Ringold lacks the moral and political standing to critique its leaders.
“It is unfortunate and appallingly distasteful for a man whom most of us in Kade politics have historic records of as criminal, deceitful, corrupt, and a peace wrecker to disrespect our party leadership,” the statement read.
The NPP further questioned Mr. Ringold’s credibility, citing his repeated failures in parliamentary elections, first as an independent candidate in 2008, then under the Convention People’s Party (CPP), and finally in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in 2016.
The party urged President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the Ghana Commodity Exchange to critically review Mr. Ringold’s appointment, citing concerns over his past conduct.
“We have shown him a lot of respect and humility over the years and regarded him as a respected elder, but his utterances on social media don’t warrant him to be accorded the same again,” the statement added.
The opposition party entreated him to distinguish between his role as a failed traditional leader and a political actor.
Reaffirming its respect for traditional authorities within the Okyeman Kingdom, the NPP emphasized that its relationship with revered chiefs remains intact, but cautioned that “the mole amongst them should be measured according to his cloth and size.”
The statement admonished for unity, discipline, and adherence to democratic principles, underscoring the party’s commitment to the rule of law and mutual respect.
