The government has issued a strong protest against the Israeli authorities following the ill-treatment of Ghanaian nationals at Ben Gurion International Airport.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated Wednesday, December 10, 2025, seven Ghanaian travellers were detained without justifiable cause on Sunday, December 7.
The detained individuals included four members of a parliamentary delegation attending the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference in Tel Aviv.
Despite diplomatic intervention, they were released after more than five hours.
The statement indicated that three of the travellers were subsequently deported on the next available flight and have since returned to Ghana.
The government has expressed deep concern over the inhumane and traumatic treatment meted out to its citizens, describing the actions of the Israeli authorities as “unfairly targeting Ghanaian travellers” and “extremely provocative, unacceptable, and inconsistent with our friendly historical relations.”
The government has summoned officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra to convey its displeasure and is considering appropriate reciprocal action.
The incident has sparked a diplomatic row between Ghana and Israel, with the Ghanaian government demanding an explanation for the alleged non-cooperation of the Israeli Government in the deportation of Ghanaians in Israeli custody.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the justification provided by the Israeli Government is “totally untenable” and contradicts the facts, confirming that the mission in Tel Aviv has been responsive and compliant with international law.
The Ghanaian Government’s strong stance on this matter underscores its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of its citizens abroad.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the Israeli Government will respond to the Ghanaian Government’s concerns and what further actions will be taken to resolve the issue.
