Black Stars’ number one goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, must be included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to former international Sammy Adjei.
The ex-Ghanaian shot-stopper believes Asare’s recent performances have positioned him as an indispensable member of the team and insists he should be at the Mundial by hook or by crook.

Adjei emphasized that whether or not the Accra Hearts of Oak captain is fully fit, he must be part of Coach Otto Addo’s final squad for the tournament.
“He has to go to the World Cup. Even if he is not fit to play, he must be included in the team.
“If we look around, we cannot be assured of having a reliable goalkeeper, but Benjamin Asare came out of nowhere to save us, and he is our number one currently,” the legendary retired goalkeeper stated.
His comments follow ongoing discussions within the Ghanaian football community about Asare’s chances of making the World Cup squad and retaining his role as first-choice goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Asare has been sidelined with an injury and is expected to be out for some time.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Darius Osei Ember on Angel TV on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Sammy Adjei expressed hope that Asare will recover quickly and maintain his form.
“I pray that God grants him the strength to come back stronger because, as a goalkeeper, the longer you stay inactive, the more your reflexes deteriorate,” he added.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June to July in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
