The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Frank Abrokwa, has emphasised the pivotal role of police in community development, urging citizens to view them as partners, not adversaries.
He highlighted their core responsibilities, which include upholding and enforcing laws, preventing and detecting crime, maintaining public order and safety, and protecting life, property, and human rights.
Operating within legal and ethical boundaries, the police investigate incidents, support victims, manage traffic, and ensure justice through arrests and evidence collection.
DCOP Abrokwa advised against vigilantism and encouraged citizens to use proper channels if officers mismanage their roles.
“The police here are also human beings and they may do something that Nana no may not like or the community members may not be pleased.
“We’re appealing that we should follow the new process and we shouldn’t take law into our own hands to fight against the police and destroy properties, and we’re appealing that this community things like this will not happen here.
“Let’s work together to build a safer, more harmonious community,” DCOP Abrokwa stated.
This message was conveyed during the inauguration of a police station and quarters in Ayiem, constructed by the Mpohor Assembly and Ayiem Divisional Traditional Council to enhance security in the area.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpohor District, Kofi Bentil, urged police officers to foster a cordial relationship with locals, rather than intimidating them.
“Your uniform should symbolise protection, not fear,” he advised.
