A powerful long-range effort from Orlando Pirates midfielder Sipho Mbule in the second half secured a 1-0 victory for Bafana Bafana over Ghana in a friendly clash on Tuesday.
The game, staged at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, acted as a warm-up for the 1996 African champions as they gear up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana’s squad, composed of players from the Ghana Premier League, also treated the fixture as preparation for the upcoming Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifiers.
The contest was tightly fought, with physical battles emerging as the match progressed.
After a scoreless opening half, coach Hugo Broos made several substitutions to hand opportunities to his fringe players.
Barely ten minutes into the second half, Mbule won possession from Heart of Lions midfielder Else Dogli and unleashed a long-range strike.
Goalkeeper Lawrence Osei, also of Heart of Lions, was caught off guard and unable to keep the ball out.
Despite pressing for an equaliser, the Black Galaxies fell short. Their closest chance rattled the base of the post, leaving them frustrated as Bafana Bafana held on for the win.
