The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mrs. Efua Ghartey, has called on the youth to advocate clean water and a clean environment, questioning how long we, as a nation, can remain unconcerned about illegal mining.

Speaking at the ‘Annual Chief Justice Mentoring Programme 2025,’ themed “Advocating for a Greener and Sustainable Future: The Environment and Justice,” on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, she stated that the youth of Ghana should advocate and create awareness about the environment and our water bodies.

“We should create awareness because if a number of people understand what our future will look like and how rapidly we are approaching a point where clean water will be an issue, then we would sit up,

” So, if as a justice club, you can take this up and advocate seriously in your communities,” she said.

She highlighted that the fight is not only for the judiciary or the ministers but for everyone.

“Now, it is our call, not just the call of the ministers sitting here or the call of the Judiciary, because they are also doing their part by establishing specialized courts and other remedies.

“It is the call of each and every one of us to contribute to rid this country of this mess; only then can we truly say that, indeed, we are custodians of this country.” she pinpointed.

Mrs. Ghartey further revealed the Bar’s readiness to assist the justice clubs in their work.

“The Bar is ever ready to collaborate with these justice clubs because we have our members in all 16 regions who can assist whenever you need help with outreach and education, making your discourse richer.” she highlighted.
