The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully foiled a planned highway robbery along the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi Highway, gunning down three suspected armed robbers on Christmas Eve.
The suspects, identified as Seidu Issah (29 years), Musah Yakubu (35 years), and Yahaya Munkaila (25 years, also known as Tijani), were killed in a shootout with police officers.
According to reports, the police had received intelligence that the gang was planning to carry out a robbery along the highway and deployed officers to the scene.

The suspects opened fire on the officers, who returned fire, killing the three suspects and injuring two others who escaped.
The police recovered several weapons, including two pump-action guns, an unbranded pistol, 25 live cartridges, and six spent cartridges.

In a follow-up operation, officers also recovered an AK47 assault rifle, an MG3 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a single-barrel gun, along with ammunition and personal items.
The suspects were linked to several robberies, including the Jacobu airport robbery on November 3, 2025, which resulted in the death of a security guard and multiple highway robberies along the Manso stretch.
Efforts are underway to trace the sources of the weapons and arrest accomplices currently at large.
