Communication Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awal Mohammed, has declared that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is set to triumph in the forthcoming election on January 31.
According to Awal Mohammed, the historical context of political parties in Ghana is not confined to the NPP. He emphasised that no first-time candidate has ever won an election in the country.
This perspective aligns with the established pattern in Ghanaian politics, where those who win typically hand over power to their opponents.
He highlighted that former President Jerry Rawlings transferred power to former President John Kufuor, who then handed over to the late President John Mills.
Similarly, President Mills was succeeded by President Mahama, who was later succeeded by Nana Akufo-Addo. Awal Mohammed insists that these individuals, having contested as first-time candidates, did not succeed in their initial elections.
In his view, Dr. Bawumia is the most popular and appealing choice, boasting a solid record of governance across all political parties in the nation.
He argued that there is no one in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who can rival the former Vice President.
During an appearance on GhOne TV on Monday, January 26, he stated, “Now when you check, who in this country is the most popular, most appealing and has the track records of governance is Dr. Bawumia in all parties; there’s no one in NDC who can match him.”
He further assured, “He has been the Vice President for the last eight years; there’s no one in this country who has that track record.”
Mohammed remarked that the current candidates running for the NPP presidential nomination lack the same level of experience as Dr. Bawumia.
He noted that only two candidates have served as cabinet ministers, making Dr. Bawumia’s accomplishments unmatched in the upcoming primaries.
“The challenges are the reason I’m not predicting 90%, the reason being that when we were in government, there was a yawning gap between the government and the party,” he explained.
“So Dr. Bawumia stands tall, and I assure you he will win and will win overwhelmingly, uniting everyone to ensure victory in the 2028 general election.”
