The Ghana Law Society (GLS) has rejected claims of affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Executive Council, describing the assertions as baseless.
According to the President of the GLS, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, the association was established to address concerns about accountability, provide support and representation for its members.
Addressing the media on Monday, January 26, 2025, Mr. Defeamekpor emphasized that joining the association is voluntary, which is lawfully protected under Article 21(1)(e) of the 1992 Constitution and supported by National Redemption Council Decree (NRCD) 143 and 675.
Speaking further on the matter, he responded to claims that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is made up of lawyers aligned with the NDC, stressing that their group is not affiliated with any political party, but rather it consists of Ghanaian lawyers with long-standing relevance and a sense of purpose.
“Ghana Bar Association(GBA) is a group of NPP lawyers; that is why they are worried? We are not a group of both, rather we are a group of Ghanaian lawyers who pay yearly basic dues of GHS 1,200 to support members’ welfare,” he noted.
