The 54-member engineer contingent from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) assisting in the country’s rebuilding has been granted a 60-day stay extension, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced.
This followed a request by the Jamaican Government for an extension of the “Operation Boafo.”
The team was initially scheduled to stay for 30 days; however, with the approval of the request by the Ghanaian government, they will remain for an additional 60 days, 90 days.
In a statement, Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa said, “The request by the Jamaican Governmentfor an extension of ‘Operation Boafo’ from 30 days to 90 days has also been granted by Ghana’s Commander-in-Chief.”
He expressed excitement over the development, explaining that Ghana’s foreign policy would no longer be defined by how much it can take from others, but by how much it can share with friends in distress.
The minister stated this while announcing additional donations of construction equipment to the Jamaican government. The items are air-conditioned tents, boats, outboard motors, medical supplies, water purifiers, plumbing, and electrical tools.
The Jamaican Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Abena Johnson Smith, JP, received the donation on behalf of the Jamaican government.
