Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman of the party.
In a statement dated February 4, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said his decision follows extensive consultations with party elders and the youth, stressing the need for steady, principled, and unifying leadership at what he described as a critical moment for the NPP.
According to him, the party’s recent challenges have offered hard lessons, making it imperative to rebuild confidence, strengthen internal structures, and reconnect with the grassroots.
He described himself as a grassroots-oriented leader who values every party member and is prepared to make sacrifices in the collective interest of the party.
Chairman Wontumi noted that his decision is not driven by personal ambition but by a commitment to strengthen, rebuild, and unify the NPP ahead of future electoral contests.
“The road ahead will demand vision, courage, and unwavering determination,” he stated, adding that the party must be prepared to take difficult decisions to reposition itself for victory.
He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness, indicating that the NPP is organised and prepared for the battles ahead, with a focus on empowering grassroots supporters and winning decisively in the 2028 general elections.
Chairman Wontumi concluded by calling for unity within the party, stating that the NPP will rise again through collective effort and shared purpose.
