The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West in the Central Region, Eghan Nyamekye Kalala, has raised concerns about poor sanitation in the district as part of efforts to promote good health.
In an interview with the press on Saturday, February 14, 2026, he stated that he has made tireless efforts to improve sanitation by clearing a major dump site at Awutu Papase Number One and by organising a large cleanup at Awutu Obrakyerɛ.
He emphasised that promoting good sanitation is his top priority and encouraged residents to participate in National Sanitation Day.
“Everyone should participate in this as sickness affects all, regardless of status. Cholera knows no bounds, so it is essential for everyone to engage in this activity for our collective well-being,” he said.
He further pointed out that traditional leaders participated in the cleanup activity and that the Chief of Obrakyerɛ, Nenyi George, expressed satisfaction, emphasising the desire for improved sanitation in the district.
“A competition will be held, and every community that keeps its environment clean will receive the necessary sanitation tools,” he stated.
“On Monday, the District Assembly will distribute sanitation tools to electoral areas,” he added.
