Preliminary investigations into a catastrophic fire that engulfed multiple vehicles at Signboard near Okanta on the Nsawam–Accra Highway early Saturday morning, point to sparks from illegal fuel siphoning as the probable ignition source.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the blaze, which involved a petrol tanker, a VIP bus, three cars, and four motorcycles, was controlled at 8:24am and fully extinguished by 11:08am averting a potential explosion.

Report indicates that the accident claimed three lives, with two males and one female burnt beyond recognition.

Fifteen people were injured; eight remain in critical care, four have been discharged, and four others received treatment and left.

Firefighters from Suhum and Bunso stations responded promptly after an emergency call, employing tactical foam application to quell the inferno.

The Service has condemned fuel siphoning, urging the public to avoid such practices and steer clear of accident scenes involving hazardous materials.

The fire service further extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property.
