President Mahama has inaugurated a new chancery for Ghana’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, reaffirming the country’s commitment to multilateralism and active engagement with the African Union.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed this on Monday, February 16, 2026, and noted that the edifice is more than just a new building reflecting Ghana’s commitment and strong resolve to deepen the bilateral relations with the friendly nation of Ethiopia.

He stated that the project initiated under the 2016 SG-SSB facility, faced delays due to economic challenges but resumed last year with the government settling outstanding payments.
“The project has a ten-year history dating back to when funding was arranged under the 2016 SG-SSB facility through to when actual construction commenced.
“The project stalling due to economic challenges and the current government’s resumption and payment of outstanding IPCs last year,” he noted.
Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that the timely commissioning of the new chancery highlight President Mahama’s readiness to assume the African Union Chairmanship next year.
