The Bono East Regional Police Command has handed over a bag containing GH¢85,000 to its rightful owner after it was found along the Techiman-Kumasi Highway.
According to police, the bag was discovered at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026, near a snap checkpoint.
Officers on duty, led by Inspector George Appiah, noticed the bag lying by the roadside, apparently fallen from a moving vehicle, and boring the name “Ofori” and a phone number.
The police explained that upon inspection, the officers realized it contained cash and immediately forwarded it to the Regional Command for investigation.
Subsequently, contact was made with the number, and 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Ashtown, Kumasi, identified himself as the owner.
He explained that the money was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle.
According to the police, the amount was verified in his presence and confirmed to be GH¢85,000.
“After satisfactory explanation from the claimant and upon further verification, police released the cash sum of GHC85,000.00 to him” a statement issued on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 added.
The police commended the officers and community members whose vigilance ensured the safe return of the cash.
