President John Dramani Mahama commissioned the new chancery at Ghana’s embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Monday, 16 February.
The significant project was initiated in 2016.
In his speech at the ceremony, President Mahama emphasised that the new chancery reflects the importance of the relationship between Ghana and Ethiopia and will further strengthen the unity and bond between the two nations.
He said the chancery is fitting for one of Ghana’s prominent diplomatic posts. He explained the historical connections between the two countries as founding members of the Organisation of African Unity, which later became the African Union.
The President noted that the new facility will provide Ghana with a peaceful space in which to conduct business with Ethiopia and expressed his satisfaction at the completion of the project.
“And so I am happy that we have completed this and can have a peaceful place to be able to do business with Ethiopia,” he uttered.
The ceremony was attended by high-level representatives, including Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Dr Gideon Timothewos; Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; members of the diplomatic corps; and representatives of the Ghanaian community in Ethiopia.
