Ghanaian comedian and television presenter, Derick Kobinna Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has urged President John Dramani Mahama not to be pressured over the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
According to him, the president should be given time to deal with the situation since he did not create the problem.
DKB made the remarks during an appearance on “U Cook” on Saturday, February 22, 2026.
“Stop the galamsey when you want, because you were not the one who issued over 200 mining licenses, nor were you the one who passed the law to mine in forest reserves,” he said.
He described the law that allowed mining in forest reserves under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as “evil”.
“How can you pass a law that allows us to mine in forest reserves, which are meant to be preserved for future use? That is evil.”
The comedian also stated that the current administration should not be subjected to pressure, arguing that people were unable to openly protest under the previous government.
“Make nobody give JM pressure, you see, because we have a lenient president, everybody feels free to protest, nine months ago, would you have had the chance to do so?” he said.
Mimicking the former president, he added, “Order from above: arrest them and put them in cells for a while, give them two weeks.”
“So, JM, don’t stress yourself. Solve the galamsey issue at your own pace, all those saying declare a state of emergency, let them leave,” he concluded.
