President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to uphold national integrity and discipline as the true measure of the nation’s independence and freedom.
Delivering his address at the 69th Independence Day celebration held at the Jubilee House on Friday, March 6, 2026, he emphasized that sustaining freedom requires a deep sense of responsibility and discipline in every aspect of national life.
“Independence granted us freedom, but freedom demands responsibility. We need to re-establish discipline in our national life, discipline in how we manage public resources, discipline in adhering to the law, discipline in how we treat one another in public life,” he advocated.
President Mahama noted that patriotism must go beyond slogans, calling on citizens to demonstrate their love for the nation through everyday actions that promote progress and unity.
Speaking to citizens and dignitaries gathered for the occasion, he reminded Ghanaians to put the nation’s interests above political, tribal, or personal considerations.
“All above we must place the country above party above tribe and above personal interest. Citizens, Ghana is bigger than anyone of us,” President Mahama declared.
