Ghana Premier League (GPL) leaders Medeama SC had another setback to their title challenge when they were stunned at the Tarkwa TNA Stadium by struggling Hohoe United, who secured a 2-1 victory on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
The Yellow and Mauve outfit had the chance to extend their lead in the Matchday 25 encounter after second-placed Bibiani Goldstars suffered a 1-3 defeat to Young Apostles; however, they bottled it.
Kelvin Obeng put the Tarkwa-based side ahead just two minutes into the second half. However, an own goal from Fatawu Sulemana brought the visitors level.
The relegation-threatened side then scored the decisive goal to clinch victory, boosting their chances of survival in the top flight during their debut season.
Hohoe United now sit 13th on the log with 30 points, while Medeama remain at the summit despite the setback.
Despite the disappointment, Medeama remain top of the table with 46 points, while Bibiani Gold Stars sit second on 45 points.
Hohoe United will travel to Swedru to face Swedru All Blacks in a crucial survival clash, while Medeama will trek to Tuba to take on in-form Dreams FC in the next round of fixtures.
