Headmaster of Accra Academy Senior High School, Eric Ebo Sey, has called on the government and the public to help build a new assembly hall and staff housing to address pressing infrastructure needs.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, March 27, 2026, ahead of the school’s 95th anniversary, Mr. Sey highlighted the challenges posed by the school’s overstretched facilities.
“We urgently need a new assembly hall that can accommodate at least 5,000 students.
“Currently, students are forced to stand outside during assembly meetings, which can be detrimental to those with health issues,” he stated.
Mr. Sey also emphasized that the school is understaffed, with only 22 staff members on campus, making it difficult to supervise examinations and provide adequate student care.
“The staff are overworked, handling morning, afternoon, and evening duties, which affects their ability to provide quality care,” he said.
To address these issues, Mr. Sey is calling for the construction of staff apartments and 32 new classroom blocks to reduce class sizes and alleviate pressure on existing facilities.
