Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has visited victims of the Accra New Town building collapse, where twenty-three (23) people have been rescued, while three fatalities have been confirmed.
She visited victims receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, the Police Hospital, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
At UGMC, she was joined by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
During the visit, she commended the swift and coordinated efforts of security and emergency services and praised residents who acted quickly as first responders at the scene.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President extended her condolences to the bereaved families and sympathies to those affected, emphasized the “need to go beyond emergency response to address the root causes of such incidents.”
She further assured the injured and their families of the government’s full support during this difficult period.
