The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered investigations into an alleged unauthorised withdrawal of GH₵400,000 from a mobile money account reportedly belonging to a Kumasi-based merchant, Derrick Okyere Dapaah, also known as “Pablo.”
In a police statement, it indicated that the probe, handled by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), has revealed that the disputed funds form part of proceeds from a suspected gold-related robbery and fraud incident currently under investigation.
According to the Police, the incident began when Francis Ayaaba of Ejisu reported being defrauded and robbed during a gold transaction at Ntoaso, near Nsawam.
Mr. Ayaaba told the police that he had paid GH₵500,000 in cash and transferred an additional GH₵400,000 through mobile money to purchase gold from the suspects, adding that moments after the payment, “some group of armed men showed up at the location and robbed him of the gold.”
Police investigations traced the GH₵400,000 transfer to mobile money accounts linked to Derrick Okyere Dapaah.
The Police said that Mr. Dapaah moved the funds between two other accounts under his name before a man identified as Abudu Dauda withdrew the entire amount using a Ghana Card bearing the name Isagali Promise.
Mr. Dauda claimed he made the “withdrawal on behalf of one Alhaji Ibrahim”.
The Police further secured a court order to freeze the involved mobile money accounts, reverse the GH₵400,000 transaction, and hold the amount as exhibit pending the court’s determination of the case.
The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects, including Abudu Dauda, Prince Ofori, and William Nene Sakitey Osabotey, a goldsmith and owner of the premises where the alleged gold deal occurred.
The Police indicated that the suspect, Pablo, was arrested and charged with abetment of crime.
The four accused persons have been arraigned before the court and granted bail to reappear on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, as investigations continue.
