The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandor, has announced that all nine municipal and district assemblies in the Oti Region, are included in the first batch of the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) programme rolling out across Ghana in 2026.

According to the minister, the Ministry of Health has selected 150 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) out of 261 to launch the programme this year, with plans to expand to the remaining areas in subsequent phases.

He urged traditional leaders, religious leaders, politicians, and all relevant stakeholders in the region to support the initiative to ensure it benefits the wider population.

“With this initiative that we have brought, we’re doing it in the whole Ghana but when we were starting it, out of 261 district, we begun it with 150 in 2026.

“But the good news for the Oti Region is that, every Region we take small to add it but as for Oti Region all the 9 districts are part of the first 150 districts,” he explained.

The Regional Minister, John Gyapong, commended the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service for launching the FPHC programme. He pledged the Regional Coordinating Council’s full support to ensure its success across all MDAs in the region.

Mr Gyapong also praised the dedication of health workers, noting their crucial role.
