Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah has urged residents of the Volta Region to preserve and pass on their cultural heritage to future generations in a way that makes the region “stronger, richer and more united.”
He said the region’s heritage remains an important part of its identity and should be preserved while ensuring that young people are equipped to carry its culture and values forward.
“As we celebrate, let us remember the farmers who made this peace possible, the young people who must inherit our culture and economy, and those who preserve this identity through migration, hardship, and change,” Dr. Debrah said.
He made the call while representing President John Dramani Mahama at a celebration in honour of Tomwe Afede XIV, whom he congratulated for 23 years of leadership and service to his people.
Dr. Debrah praised the people of the Volta Region for their dignity, pride in their heritage and love for Ghana, saying the region had made significant contributions to the country’s development.
“There is something unforgettable about the people of the Volta region. You carry yourself with dignity. You hold your heritage proudly and love Ghana deeply,” he said.
He noted that the region had produced outstanding teachers, farmers, artists, entrepreneurs and patriots, adding that Ghana was stronger because of their contributions.
Dr. Debrah urged residents to ensure that the region’s cultural inheritance was not lost amid migration, hardship and social change.
“Let us pass the inheritance on, stronger, richer, and more united,” he said.
He said the preservation of heritage should go hand in hand with efforts to create opportunities for young people to participate in the region’s cultural and economic development.
According to Dr. Debrah, government also recognises the Volta Region as an important centre for production, tourism and trade, and its development vision must be reflected in tangible work on the ground.
He said the celebration should serve both as an opportunity to honour the past and a reminder of the responsibility to build a stronger future.
“May every piece remind us that heritage is strongest when it carries a people forward,” he said.
Dr. Debrah further expressed the hope that Asogwe would continue to demonstrate how communities can honour their history, remain united in the present and build confidently for the future.
He concluded by wishing long life to Tomwe Afede XIV, the Asogwe State and the Volta Region, while praying for God’s blessings on Ghana.
