The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has named Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren to lead the Black Stars on an interim basis for their November fixture against Somalia.
The appointment was made on the recommendation of the Black Stars Coach Search Committee.
According to a joint statement issued by the Ministry, the GFA and the Search Committee, the decision followed an extensive review process and consultations with a number of qualified coaching candidates.
The Committee determined that the most effective approach for the period is to appoint a complementary technical team capable of providing continuity, experienced leadership and strategic direction as the Black Stars navigate an important period of transition and renewal.
Björkegren will be assisted by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram as Assistant Coaches, with Fatawu Dauda serving as Goalkeepers Coach.
The statement said the combination brings together international experience, local knowledge, technical expertise and a deep understanding of the Ghanaian football landscape to prepare the team effectively for the upcoming assignment.
Additional multidisciplinary technical and support staff will also be assigned to ensure the team is fully equipped to meet the demands of the November international window.
The GFA clarified that the interim arrangement applies specifically to the November fixtures while the Search Committee continues its work in accordance with its mandate.
“The Ministry, Football Association and Search Committee remain fully committed to ensuring that both the Black Stars and Black Queens receive the technical and operational support required to meet their respective objectives during the upcoming international period,” the statement said.
It called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team and support the players and technical staff as they prepare to represent the nation.
