The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools (SHS/SHTS) will oberved Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as a public holiday to mark the observance of Eid-ul-Adha.
In a letter dated May 25, addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, GES said, the day has been “declared a public holiday” to mark the celebration.
According to the Service, all Heads of Students are to grant permission to students who wish to observe the Eid festivities.
GES, however, directed that such students must return to school by the close of the same day.
It further requested Regional Directors of Education to communicate the directive to all Municipal and District Directors of Education (MMDES) as well as Heads of Schools within their respective jurisdictions for necessary dissemination and compliance.
