The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has cautioned the public against encroaching on railway lines after two young people were found sleeping on a bench placed directly across active tracks during a routine inspection.
In a post shared by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GRDA, Frederick Appoh, the Authority disclosed that track and security teams discovered the pair at 5am during pre-operational inspections.
The bench had been positioned in the middle of the railway corridor.
“Had it not been for the strict operational rule requiring track inspections before train departures, this could have resulted in a tragic loss of life,” the post stated.
The Authority noted that encroachment remains “one of the greatest threats to safe railway operations in Ghana.”
To address this, it has deployed over 70 railway security personnel along the corridor to protect the right of way and prevent accidents.
