A new poll shows that most Ghanaians agree with President John Dramani Mahama’s decision not to run for a third term in office.
According to Global InfoAnalytics, 65 per cent of voters support the president’s decision to respect the constitutional limit and leave office after his current term. The survey was released on July 27, 2026.
Only 27 per cent said they disagree with him, while 8 per cent said they do not have an opinion.
The poll comes at a time when some people have been calling on the president to stay in office beyond the two terms allowed by the Constitution.
When voters were asked specifically about those calls for a third term, opinions were more divided. Half of respondents, 50 per cent, said they do not support the idea. But 40 per cent said they do support calls for President Mahama to seek another term. The remaining 10 per cent were undecided.
This means that while a majority approve of the president following the Constitution, a large number of people would still want him to continue if possible.
The survey was conducted between July 15 and July 24, 2026. Global InfoAnalytics spoke to 7,761 registered voters out of 9,242 people targeted. That is an 84 per cent response rate.
The interviews were done by phone and covered all 16 regions. The sample was taken from the 2024 Electoral Commission voters’ register.
The research firm said the poll has a 99 per cent confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.
Global InfoAnalytics explained that this is part of a new study where the same voters will be asked questions every two months to track how opinions change. This is different from its regular quarterly polls.
