Government has identified the Volta Region as an important centre for production, tourism and trade as it seeks to harness the region’s potential to contribute to Ghana’s development.
The Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, said the government’s vision for the region must be reflected in tangible development and work on the ground.
“Government sees Volta as an important center for production, tourism, and trade, and that vision must be visible in the work on the ground,” the Chief of Staff said.
He was speaking at a celebration in honour of Tomwe Afede XIV, where he congratulated the traditional ruler on his 23 years on the throne and his leadership and guidance to his people.
The Chief of Staff praised the people of the Volta Region for their dignity, pride in their heritage and contribution to Ghana’s development.
“There is something unforgettable about the people of the Volta region. You carry yourself with dignity. You hold your heritage proudly and love Ghana deeply,” he said.
He noted that the region had produced outstanding teachers, farmers, artists, entrepreneurs and patriots, adding that Ghana had become stronger because of their contributions.
The Chief of Staff also emphasised the importance of preserving the region’s cultural heritage while ensuring that young people inherit and build upon it.
“As we celebrate, let us remember the farmers who made this peace possible, the young people who must inherit our culture and economy, and those who preserve this identity through migration, hardship, and change,” he said.
He urged the people of the region to pass their heritage on to future generations “stronger, richer, and more united.”
The Chief of Staff said the celebration should serve not only as an occasion for festivities but also as a reminder of the responsibility to protect and advance the region’s heritage and development.
“May every piece remind us that heritage is strongest when it carries a people forward,” he said.
He further expressed hope that Asogwe would continue to demonstrate how communities could honour their past while working together to build a stronger future.
The Chief of Staff concluded by celebrating Tomwe Afede XIV, the Asogwe State and the Volta Region, while extending his wishes for Ghana’s continued progress.
