The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the reopening of the University for the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a press release dated October 9, 2026, the University Management announced that the reopening, which was originally scheduled for October 13, 2026, had been postponed.
“The University Management wishes to inform students, parents/guardians, and the public that the reopening of the University for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, originally scheduled for 13th October 2026, has been postponed indefinitely,” the statement said.
According to the University, the decision was necessitated by the ongoing strike action by GAUA and its impact on the institution’s operations and administration.
“This decision has become necessary in view of the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and its impact on the University’s effective operations and administration,” said the release, signed by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer of KNUST, on behalf of the Registrar.
The University Management has advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the postponement, assuring them that further updates on the revised reopening date would be provided in due course.
“Management regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders,” the statement said.
