A Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr Kingsley Agyei has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to hold on with the compilation of the new voters register.
Speaking on Anopa Bɔfoɔ hosted by Captain Smart, the Lecturer said the EC must not be allowed to go ahead because of the COVID-19.
“We should hold on with the church and the EC’s activities…the time is not ripe for the EC to go ahead with the compilation of the new voters register, it is not safe so the EC must be stopped from going ahead with exercise…,” she said.
The EC was given the green light to go ahead with the compilation of the new voters roll during the President’s 10th Address to the nation on actions that the government is undertaking to stop the spread of the disease.
The President during the address also announced the re-opening of churches remarking that only up to a 100 worshipers will be allowed in a worship centre at a time.
The main opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been against the compilation of the new voters register.
Other political parties and civil society groups have also called on the government to stop the EC from compiling the new register.
This call, the Lecturer said is apt and must be adhered to.
The Lecturer also opined that the churches must also be allowed to open as well.
