Delivering his acceptance speech at his Nima residence, President Akufo-Addo said “the Ghanaian people through the results have made it loud and clear that the two parties; the NPP and the NDC must work together especially in parliament for the good of the country”.
“Now is the time for each and every one of us, irrespective of our political affiliations to unite and join hands, stand shoulder to shoulder and work hard to place Ghana where she deserves to be – a prosperous and dynamic member of the global community making our own unique contribution to the growth of world civilization”, he stressed.
He noted that the period for campaigning is over and the outcome of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections is the decision of the Ghanaian people.
The president revealed that his immediate task is to reverse the devasting effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the economy as well as the lives of the citizenry.
He further promised to build a prosperous and progressive Ghana to put the country back on track as one of the fastest growing economies of the world.
Describing the 2020 polls as one of the best elections in Ghana’s electoral history, he applauded the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah and her team, in doing a yeo man’s job to deliver a peaceful election amidst a global pandemic.
He also extended his commendation to the media, the security agencies, election observers and the electorates in playing their respective roles for the success of the elections.
While urging NPP supporters to celebrate their victory modestly, President Akufo-Addo however, condemned the pockets of violence in some of the polling centres which led to the loss of lives.
