The New Patriotic Party supporters in the Volta Region have begun demonstration against the reappointment of their regional Minister Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa despite the Volta Regional Police’s order restraining them.

The demonstrators who are cladded in red paraphernalia begun the protest from Metro Mass yard at Sokode Lokoe and are expected to proceed to the Party Regional Office where they would be presenting their petition to the President through the Party’s Regional Secretary, as part of their resolve to cause change in the reappointment of Dr. Letsa.

The Volta Regional Police, in their response to a letter indicating the group’s intention to embark on series of activities to register their displeasures, denied the demonstrators the opportunity to proceed, but they would not yield to the order.

According to the demonstrators, Dr. Letsa has performed poorly as a regional minister and has no good human relationship with them for which reason they protest against his reappointment. Dr Archibald Letsa

The inscriptions on their shirts read “#EnoughisEnouch in Volta, Volta rejects Dr. Letsa as Regional Minister. One man no chop; enough is enough, Dr. Letsa.”

Meanwhile, the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region have called on the demonstrators to reconsider their decision as they work to address their concerns.

In a press release signed by Volta MDCEs and addressed to all stakeholder and media houses, the group said “the nomination of Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa comes as a welcoming news to us and meets our expectation. It must be stated that the Hon.  Dr. Letsa, has and will remain a party steward of many years standing who has worked diligently and won the admiration of many people from all walks of life in the region and even out of the region. Under his leadership, we have witnessed massive development projects across all districts of our region.”

“we have, however taken note of some agitations and concerns of a section of the population in the region and their intensions to undertake series of demonstrations to drive home their grievances. We would like to advise that this is as much as it may be their right as enshrined in the 1992 constitution, we would like to reconsider their actions and put their series of demonstrations on hold as leadership works tirelessly to address their concerns behind the scene.” The statement read.Dr Archibald Letsa

The group urges all to have confidence in the leadership of the party and government to resolve any concerns and encourages them use the appropriate medium to seek redress in matters like this.
