Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum has described as false reports that parents whose wards are beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School (SHS) will start paying fees.
Reports that made rounds in sections of the Ghanaian media quoted the Minister as saying that parents parents who wish to pay the fees for their wards despite the Free SHS program are free to do so.
“If you want to pay, go to Achimota, if your child goes there, give the money to the headmaster and say headmaster don’t receive money from the Ministry of education for my son, and we’ll applaud you for that”, he was quoted as saying.
But the Minister insists the report is false as according to him, SHS education will continue to remain free.
He told Captain Smart on Angel FM’s Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ on Tuesday that the quotation did not reflect his views on the free SHS.
As a believer of the free SHS policy, the Minister continued, there is no way I would ensure that any parent pays school feels.
“Disregard the said report because that won’t happen…,” he said.
